كان الجدّ "سليمان بن صالح الدخيل" - رحمه الله - عالماً مثقفاً واسع العلم والمعرفة، أخذ العلم من علماء القصيم، ثم إزداد ثقافة ورسوخاً من علماء العراق، مثل العلامة "شكري الألوسي" واتصل بالمثقفين، فألّف وكتب وأنشأ جريدة الرياض عام 1327هـ (1910م)، فكانت منبراً من منابر العربية، حيث حملت لواء الدعوة إلى وحدة العرب، فكانت لسان صدق لبعث المجد العربي، كافح فيها عن العرب وأبلى فيها من الدولة التركية التي كانت في ذلك الوقت لا تأبه للعرب.
نشر فيها بحوث جليلة عن الجزيرة العربية عن عادات أهلها وحروبهم وسلمهم وقبائلهم وغزواتهم ومنازعاتهم وأمرائهم ومواقفهم السياسية والتعريف بتاريخهم المجيد.
يقول "رفائيل بطي" (بأن جريدة الرياض خدمت القضية العربية بما أحدثت من كثرة الضجيج والكتابة عن قلب الجزيرة العربية وينبوع العروبة)؛ لم يكن-رحمه الله- مثقفاً فقط بل كان إدارياً حازماً.
أنه الرجل العصامي المثقف ذو العلم والثقافة والإدارة والسيرة الحسنة، يقول عنه "عبد الجبار جاسم" (إنه رجل وديع لا يميل إلا للخير في كل ما يعمل أو يضمر).
