لعبت المرجعية الدينية العليا في النجف الأشرف دوراً رئيسياً في العملية السياسية الجارية في العراق، فأسست لمرتكزاتها، وواكبت تحولاتها، ورعت مسيرتها، وكان لمواقفها الأثر البالغ في الحفاظ على لوحدة الوطنية، والسعي لإنجاز الاستقلال والسيادة، والعمل لإنهاء الاحتلال، من خلال الحث لإعادة بناء الدولة ومؤسساتها، على أساس الالتزام بالقانون، ومبادئ العدالة والمساواة واحترام الآخر، وتفعيل المشاركة الشعبية.
هذا الكتاب يجمع كل ما صدر عن سماحة السيد علي الحسيني السيستاني، أو عن مكتبه في النجف الأشرف، حول المسألة العراقية، من فتاوى، وبيانات، ورسائل، ومقابلات صحفية، وتصريحات بعد سقوط النظام السابق في 9/4/2003، وهي فترة تمتد لأكثر من ثلاثة سنوات بالغة الحساسية والتعقيد من تاريخ العراق.
وهدف هذا الكتاب، هو تقديم آراء المرجعية الدينية العليا في العملية السياسية وفق ما صدر عنها مباشرة، في محاولة لتوثيقها منهجياً من جهة ولتطويق حملة الافتراءات والتقولات على المرجعية الدينية -من جهة أخرى- التي تنسب لها بين الفينة والأخرى تصريحات وبيانات كاذبة وظالمة، تستهدف تشويه سمعتها، وإرباك الواقع السياسي.
وبشكل عام يتوزع هذا الكتاب على ثلاثة فصول وفهارس. يحتوي الفصل الأول على كافة النصوص وفق التسلسل الزمني لصدورها، بينما تكفل الفصل الثاني بترتيبها موضوعياً، أما الفصل الثالث فيحتوي على صور الوثائق الأصلية لهذه النصوص.
