"أرض شابور" رواية بإمكاننا عليها وبإمتياز مصطلح "نوفيللا" ليس فقط لصغر حجمها كعمل روائي، ولكن أيضًا لأنها تنبش بقوة في تاريخ نطاق جغرافي محدود له سماته وملامحه الخاصة وحكاياه المدهشة التي صاغها الروائي في لغة سريعة الإيقاع تراوح بين المشهدي والإخباري بكثير من المرونة.
إذا ما تعاملنا مع عنوان هذه الرواية "أرض شابور" على أنه عتبة يمكننا أن ندلف عبرها إلى عالم هذه الرواية، فإن هذا سيحيلنا سريعًا إلى أهمية السيرذاتي في الكتابة الروائية؛ وإلى أي مدى يستطيع الكاتب أن يعيد تشييد عالمٍ قد ظن ساكنوه أو ما تبقى من ساكنيه أنه قد أصبح فريسةً للعدم أو النسيان. وبقدر ما يطرح السيرذاتي نفسه كسؤال في بناء الرواية ـ أو النوفيللا كما أحب أن أسميها ـ بقدر ما سنجد انتشار الفانتازي هنا وهناك. ذلك لأن العائش في خضم هذا العالم لم يشعر أبدًا بالدهشة؛ بينما العائش نفسه الذي سيقرأ الرواية ستداهمه الدهشة من السطور الأولى في الرواية.
على الرغم من بساطة العالم الذي تتناوله رواية "أرض شابور"، إلا إن العلاقات في حقيقتها على أعلى درجة من التعقيد. هي ليست علاقات بسيطة عابرة كما تبدو؛ بل إننا نجدها في واقع الأمر حقلاً لكثير من التداخلات والتأثيرات. إن العلاقات بين شخصيات هذه الرواية لا تبدأ عند نقطة بعينها ولا تنتهي مطلقًا عند نقطة بعينها. وكأنها تصادمات وليست علاقات. الناس في أرض شابور لا تشغلهم أمور كثيرة مما يشغل العالم الأوسع الذي يعيشون فيه. ربما تراهم أكثر انشغالاً بمفردات حيواتهم الاعتيادية. فلا تجد هناك من يتحدث عن الحرية والتطور والخروج والانطلاق، حتى من أتيحت لهم فرصة الخروج قد عادوا طواعية إلى أرض شابور ليكملوا دورة حياتهم. وكأن أرض شابور هي بيئتهم الحيوية التي يموتون حال تخليهم عنها. إن مفهوم الاختيار غائب وكأن أرض شابور كنطاق جغرافي قد أسست لسلطة المكان على ساكنيه. العالم في هذه الرواية يبدو شاسعًا لدرجة أن الروائي قد عمد إلى استخدام مستويات متعددة في السرد، وأكثر من راوٍ لتكتمل معه الرواية.
