ومستشار بمركز التطوير التكنولوجي بوزارة التعليم، ومنتدب أستاذًا (لمواد الأطفال) بكلية الآداب، وكلية الدراسات الإنسانية.
-عضو المجلس العالمي لكتب الأطفال، وعضو لجنة ثقافة الطفل، بالمجلس الأعلى للثقافة.
-حائز على جائزة الدولة مرتين 1972 و 1989، وعلى وسام العلوم والفنون من الطبقة الأولى، ونوط الامتياز من الطبقة الأولى، والعديد من الجوائز والدروع والميداليات الذهبية والتذكارية.
-له نحو 300 كتاب للأطفال (أحدها طبع منه نحو 13 مليون نسخة)، وقاموس، وديوان شعر، وعشرات المسرحيات والبرامج الإذاعية والتليفزيونية، و 4 دوائر معارف (واحدة طبع منها 104 كتب وأكثر من مليون نسخة).
-قام بتدريس مواد (أدب الأطفال) و (ثقافة الأطفال) في جامعات: القاهرة، عين شمس، الأزهر، طنطا، وعدد من كليات التربية على مدى 38 عامًا جامعيًا.
-له 12 كتابًا للكبار، كمراجع في أدب الأطفال..
أولها كتاب: "فن الكتابة للأطفال" الذي طبعته له هيئة الكتاب في 1968 كأول كتاب للكبار عن أدب الأطفال في الوطن العربي.
-توجد 3 رسائل ماجستير ودكتوراة، تدور حول كتبه، سجلها الباحثون في جامعتي: القاهرة وعين شمس وفي المعهد العالي لدراسات الطفولة.
-اختارت جامعة يوتا في أمريكا مجموعة من كتبه لتدرس بها، كنموذج لأدب الأطفال العربي الحديث.
-جاء في أوراق ترشيحه لجائزة الملك فيصل العالمية أنه: "أول من بدأ يجعل من أدب الأطفال العربي علمًا له قواعد وأصول.
وكان من ثمرة هذا أن أصبحت (كتب الأطفال) لأول مرة مادة دراسية في كلية الآداب بجامعة القاهرة ابتداء من أكتوبر 1975، وأصبح هو أول أستاذ لهذه المادة في تاريخ أدب الأطفال العربي.
-أطلق اسمه على أحد شوارع مدينة جدة بالسعودية، واختير ضمن موسوعة (الشخصيات المصرية الهامة) التي أصدرتها وزارة الإعلام المصرية (هيئة الاستعلامات)، وضمن سجل (أعلام القرن العشرين) الذي تعده وزارة الثقافة المصرية.
