في "الموسيون" كان العلماء والمفكرون قضايا عصرهم في المناخ المميز لجامعة الإسكندرية القديمة التي كانت أعظم ما في المدينة، لقد شهد القرن الثالث قبل الميلاد أعظم عصور الازدهار العلمي التي كشفت عنها الحضارة القديمة بفضل مساندة القصر الامبراطوري ودعمه المادي لبحوث الموسيون العلمية التي أدت إلى تطوير علوم الفيزياء والفلك والجغرافيا والهندسة والرياضيات والتاريخ الطبيعي والطب والآداب، كانت حالة التعليم تتأثر وتؤثر على حالة التسامح الثقافي والديني داخل الإسكندرية التي امتزج فيها الجنود المقدونيين ثم الرومان والقساوسة المصريين والتجار اليهود وارستقراطيين الإغريق والبحارة، الفينيقيون متأثرين بالزوار من الهنود والأفارقة، وكانت نتيجة لاتصال الأجناس والثقافات ازدهار الإسكندرية وتطور جامعتها القديمة.
لقد انتجت الحالة التعليمية لمصر في القرن الثالث قبل الميلاد أعظم العلماء التي يحق لنا أن نفتخر بهم ومنهم إقليدس عالم الهندسة الذي تتلمذ على يديه أعظم الرياضيين مثل أرشميدس وأبولونيوس وعالم الطب والتشريح هيروفيلوس وعالم الفلك أريستاخوس وعالم النبات ثيوفراستوس وبرع في الشعر والأدب كليماخوس وثيوكربتوس، وقد كان للحالة التعليمية في مصر الاثر العظيم في تطوير الحضارة وعلى إثراء التراث الانساني العلمي والثقافي والديني ومن مصر اندلعت الديانة المصرية إلى حضارة اليونان وفلسفتهم وظهرت ترجمة العهد القديم وظهر الفلاسفة مثل أفلاطون، تلك كانت الحالة التعليمية لمصر في القرن الثالث قبل الميلاد فما هي الحالة التعليمية لمصر في العصر الحديث، هذا هو ما نجيب عليه في هذا الكتاب.
