مواقف وأقوال كتاب أرثوذكسى فريد يضم بين طياته نماذج هامة من مواعظ وأحاديث، ومقالات، ومقابلات بطريرك إنطاكية وسائر الشرق، اغناطيوس الرابع. والكتاب الفريد لا يقدم إلا من ذاته، فمقدمته هي خطبة: "تسلمت عصا الرعاية" التي ألقاها اغناطيوس الرابع في كنيسة المريمية في دمشق عند تنصيبه بطريركاً على الكرسي الأنطاكي السنة 1979. في هذه الخطبة كما في كل ما يكتب ويعظ، ويتناول في أحاديثه، تتجلى للقارئ روحية عابقة بالإيمان. التفاوت واضح بين المقال الدراسي البحتي في هذا الكتاب، والكلمة الوعظية التوجيهية، والمقابلة الصحفية، ولكن رغم تنوع الأسلوب بسبب تنوع المقام والمقال، فالرسالة تبقى هي هي. من "مواقف أقوال" يطل اغناطيوس على القارئ شخصية واحدة منسجمة كلياً مع نفسها تجمع في وحدتها تعددات وتشعبات.
والتنوع عنده إغناء للوجود وتعبير عن الحرية التي أولاها الله للإنسان على أن يبقى هذا التنوع ضمن الأطر الوحدوية النابعة من الإيمان بإله واحد خالق الكون والمكونات. يتطرق غبطته في هذا الكتاب إلى كل ما يجول في خاطر الإنسان المشرقي في مطلع القرن الحادي والعشرين من تساؤلات عن الوجود ومعناه، عن العبادات والطقوس، عن الوطن والمواطنة وعما يتفجر حولنا وبيننا من إشكاليات وتحديات.
