تستخدم الدراسة عدة مناهج بحثية معتمدة في البحث العلمي الرصين لعل من أبرزها إستخدام المنهج التأريخي للغوص في تأريخ دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، فضلاً عن إستخدام المنهج التحليلي النظمي لتحليل مرتكزات النفوذ للإمارات، وأسباب توسع النفوذ للإمارات، وإستخدام المنهج الإستشرافي من خلال عملية بعيدة عن أمور التكهن، والإعتبارات الشخصية، والتركيز على إستقراء مستقبل النفوذ الإماراتي إقليمياً، ودولياً.
تنقسم الدراسة إلى ستة فصول الأول يتناول نبذة تأريخية عن دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، حيث سيتم إستعراض عدة عناصر منها التاريخ، والموقع الجيوبوليتكي، والواقع الديمغرافي، ونظام الحكم، والقوة العسكرية، والسياسة الخارجية للإمارات في عهد الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان، أما الفصل الثاني فيتناول إستعراض مرتكزات النفوذ للإمارات من خلال ستة مرتكزات الأول المرتكز السياسي، والثاني المرتكز الإقتصادي، والثالث المرتكز الأمني، والرابع المرتكز الدبلوماسي، والخامس المرتكز الإعلامي، والسادس المرتكز الرياضي، أما الفصل الثالث فيتناول أسباب توسع النفوذ للإمارات منها أسباب داخلية، وثانية إقليمية، وثالثة دولية.
أما الفصل الرابع فيتناول طبيعة النفوذ الإقليمي والدولي للإمارات منها تناول النفوذ في العراق، ومصر، والسعودية، واليمن، والصومال وموريتانيا، وجيبوتي، وليبيا، والمملكة المتحدة، وفرنسا، والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، وألمانيا.
أما الفصل الخامس فيتناول تداعيات توسع النفوذ للإمارات منها تداعيات سياسية وإقتصادية، وعسكرية، وأمنية، أما الفصل السادس والأخير فيتناول مستقبل النفوذ الإمارات إقليمياً، ودولياً، وينقسم إلى قسمين الأول يرجح سيناريو إستمرار النفوذ الإماراتي إقليمياً ودولياً، والثاني يتوقع حدوث سيناريو تراجع النفوذ الإماراتي إقليمياً ودولياً، وستنتهي الدراسة بالخاتمة والإستنتاجات.
