تتمتع هذه الدراسة بأهمية خاصة تتعدد في عدة مجالات المجال الأول أن الأهمية الأولى للدراسة هي أهمية أكاديمية بحتة، لأن محاولة إستقراء مستقبل سلطنة عمان بعد السلطان قابوس هي محاولة قد تكون ضمن محاولات غير مرئية، وغير فعالة في تناول هذا الموضوع بهذه الصراحة، لأن الدول تمضي، وتتطور، وتبقى المؤسسات الحكومية، والإدارية، ويندثر الحكام الحكومية، والإدارية، ويندثر الحكام، والملوك، والأمراء من خلال دورة الزمان حيث تتداول الأجيال الحكم من جيل إلى آخر، ولهذا نطرح الموضوع في هذا الوقت الحساس قبل غياب السلطان لإستقراء المستقبل بعد غيابه وتكاد تكون هذه المحاولة تمثل نوع من المجازفة العلمية من الباحث لإمتطاء هذا الموضوع، وفك شفراته البحثية بطرق علمية، وأكاديمية، كخدمة يقدمها الباحث لكل من له إهتمام بالموضوع من سياسيين، أو أكاديميين لإطلاعهم على السيناريوهات المتوقع حدوثها في المستقبل القريب لما بعد السلطان قابوس بعد كبر سنه، وتقدم مرضه.
الأهمية الثانية للموضوع هي أهمية موضوعية لأن الكتابات البحثية الطويلة كالكتب، والرسائل، والأطاريح الجامعية عن مستقبل السلطنة بعد غياب السلطان قابوس غير موجودة في المكتبة العربية ما عدا وجود مقالات متناثرة هنا وهناك، مع العرض وجود دراسات سابقة تتناول نظام الحكم في السلطنة لكنها لا تتقرب من جزئية المستقبل لأسباب متعددة وعليه تعتبر هذه الدراسة وبكل تواضع هي محاولة جديدة لم تتطرق لها الدراسات السابقة، ولم نجد دراسة أكاديمية بحثية في هذا الإطار، مع العرض وجود مقالات إسرائيلية سيتم تناولها لاحقاً لبعض المحلليين الإسرائيليين تضع تصورات مستقبلية لما سيحدث في السلطنة بعد غياب السلطان قابوس.
الأهمية الثالثة للموضوع هي أهمية قراءة الدراسة للتداعيات الناتجة عن غياب السلطان قابوس، ولعل أبرز المشاكل التي يمكن أن تقع فيها السلطنة بعد غياب السلطان قابوس هو كيفية فك الإشتباك بين سلطاته وتوزيعها على أصحاب الإختصاص سياسياً، وإقتصادياً، وعسكرياً.
