صمم هذا الكتاب كمدخل تمهيدي لتعلم واكتساب اللغة اليابانية من خلال تعلم الأفعال الأساسية واكتساب مهارات التحكم في تصريفات كل فعل من أفعالها دون مشقة وتعقيد، تعمدنا أن نبدأ بدراسة الأفعال لما يتمتع به الفعل من أهمية خاصة في هيكل اللغة خاصة وأنه يأتي في نهاية الجملة، فالمتحدث قد يسقط من كلامه الفاعل وأحيانًا المفعول به، لكنه لا يمكن أن يمس الفعل وتصريفاته.
يحتاج هذا الكتاب لتدريسه حوالي 60ساعة مكثفة لتدريسة وهي نفس الفترة الكافية لتعليم حروف "الكاتاكانا" و "الهيراجانا" وبعض أشكال المقاطع الصينية "Kanji" ثم بعد ذلك ينتقل الدارس إلى المستوى الأول باستعمال أي كتاب في متناول اليد دون أن يحدث له صدمة قد تفقد حماسة لدراسة اللغة اليابانية، ذلك لأننا نعتقد أن تغطية الأفعال أولا كمرحلة تمهيدية، تعطي الدارس فهمًا واضحًا للصورة الكلية للغة اليابانية حتى وإن كانت غير مرئية، هذا الكتاب يختلف بذلك عن الكتب الأخرى التي عادة ما تبدأ بالأسماء والصفات والظروف ويأت الجزء الخاص بالأفعال في النص الثاني من منهج تلك الكتب، إنه من السهل أن نبحث عن الأسماء والصفات في أي معجم من المعاجم، ولكن الطلاب يجدون صعوبة في الكشف عن الأفعال، والسبب في ذلك أن الأفعال وطرق الكشف عنها تظهر واضحة فقط فيما يسمى "بالشكل القاموسي"، أما التصريفات يصعب البحث عنها، ولذا كان على الدارس أن يعرف كيف يتم تصريف كل فعل من الأفعال بطريقة عفوية، وهذا سيؤدي بدون أي شك إلى رفع كفاءة استخدام اللغة عند الدارسين خاصة الكبار منهم.
