كانت الحاجةُ إلى الحفاظِ على القرآن الكريم من التَّصحيفِ والتَّحريفِ واللَّحنِ السبب الأول والرئيسَ لنشوء الدراساتِ القرآنية، الَّتي كانت موضعَ إهتمام المسلمين.
وكانت الدراساتُ القرآنيةُ كثيرةً ومُتنوعةً، وكان النحو أحدَ هذهِ الدِّراسات، فبدأَ أول أمرهِ بضبطِ أواخر الكلم في الآياتِ بالنَّقط الذي توصَّلَ إليه أبو الأسود الدؤلي، عند منتصفِ القرنِ الأولِ للهجرةِ النِّبويَّةِ الشريفة.
وكان منهجهم هو إستقراء اللغةِ وملاحظة الأساليب، فكان العلماءُ يخرجُونَ إلى بوادي نجد والحجاز وتهامة، يستقرئُونَ أهلها ويُشافهوهم ويأخذون عنهم اللغة الفُصحى.
إلا انَّ الشيخَ عبد الكريم الدبّان (المتوفى: 1993م) وجد في سنوات تدريسه للغةِ العربيَّة، ولكتاب "شرح قطر الندى، وبل الصدى" أنَّ طُلاب المراحل الدراسيَّة المتوسطةِ الخاصَّة بالدرسِ النحويِّ، يجدونَ فيه صعوبةً من جرَّاءِ الإكثار من ذكرِ الإختلافات والإطالةِ في الرِّدِّ عليها، وكذلك فيما يتعلَّقُ بالإستشهاد بالشواهدِ الشعريَّةِ الَّتي لا يخلو أكثرُها من غموضٍ في المعنى وعُسرِ في الإعراب.
وجاء كتابُ "التوضيح" - كما قالَ مؤلِّفُهُ في مقدمةِ الكتابِ - تلبيةً لطلبِ تلاميذه، ولِمَا رآهُ (رحمه الله) من الإفادة في الطريقةِ والمنهجِ اللذين كان يتبعُهُما في تدريسه للمادة.
ويكون العمل في هذا الكتاب دراسةً وتحقيقاً وشرحاً، وفق منهج علميِّ وتعليميِّ، أغنى بشرحِ وتوضيح مواد المَتن العلميَّة وأعززُ ذلك بالشروح، والتَّوضيحات، والملحوظات، والفوائد، والأمثلة والشواهد القرآنيَّة، وإعرابٍ للشَّواهد، وغير ذلك، مما يجعلهُ كتاباً ذا منهجِ علميٍّ وتعليميٍّ.
كتاب توضيح قطر الندى للعلامة الأستاذ العلامة عبدالكريم الدبان التكريتي، وهو كتاب تعليمي مهم أودع فيه خبرته الطويلة العميقة في تدريس اللغة العربية، وقصد منه تقريب أصله: شرح قطر الندى وبل الصدى للإمام ابن هشام الأنصاري، ومزج المتن بالشرح، وأعاد الصياغة بالطريقة التي توخاها نافعة، وشرح عمله ودوافعه، ومنهجه في مقدمته، وهو يعد جسرًا بين كتب النحو القديمة والحديثة.
