العلاّمة النحوي المصري إبن هشام هو من أعلام النحاة الذين لا يشق غبارهم ، ولا يخفى فضلهم ؛ لما أسداه إلى المكتبة النحوية من تصانيف احتلت مكان الصدارة بين كتب النحو . ومن مصنفاته الجليلة المختصر المسمى : ( قطر الندى وبلّ الصدى ) .
ويبدو أنه ألّف هذا المختصر ليجعله أساساً متيناً لدارس النحو بالأسلوب الذي كان سائداً أيام تأليفه ، بحيث يلجأ إليه المبتدي ولا يستغني عنه المنتهي .
وقد وجدت في هذا الكتاب مادة نحوية تغني الدارس أيما إغناء ، سواء على مستوى الدراسة الخاصة الذاتية ، أم على مستوى الدراسة المنهجية الأكاديمية ، فأحببت أن أضع له شرحاً موجزاً أسير فيه على نهج المؤلف نفسه من حيث ترتيب الأبواب والفصول ؛ لأقدم هذا المتن النحوي التراثي بحلّة جديدة ميسرة للراغبين في الدراسة النحوية وللسائرين بدراستها في المستوى الجامعي ؛ إذ إنه مرجع مساند لهم في منهج دراستهم ، فكان هذا الشرح الذي سميته : تقريب المدى إلى قطر الندى وبل الصدى .
