ليس من شكّ أن التراث النحوي الذي تركه أسلافنا نفيسٌ غاية النّفاسة، وأن الجهد الناجح الذي بذل فيه خلال الأزمنة المتعاقبة جهدٌ لم يتهيأ للكثير من العلوم المختلفة.
وقواعد اللغة العربية وصلت إلى حدّ الكمال نضجت وما احترقت أو استقرت على حالة رسخت في الأذهان وثبتت في القرائح، وبهذا سَهُل على واضعي قوانينها، وحفّاظ موادها ان يحيطوا بأطرافها، ويأتوا على كلّ جوانبها.
ولقد تبوأت مصنّفات الإمام ابن هشام الانصاري مكانة سامية بين مصنفات قواعد اللغة العربية، ويأتي كتاب قطر الندى وبل الصدى أول هذه المصنفات، فقد تنافست حلقات العلم في مصر والشام خاصَّة على هذا الكتاب التعليمي، وجنح إليه معظم الدّارسين والمدرسين، وتنافس الباحثون والمصنفون على خدمة هذا الكتاب، فله أكثر من عشرين شرحاً، وله أكثر من عشرين مخطوطاً، وله قديماً طبعات كثيرة تجاوزت العشرين.
هذه الأهمية الكبرى لهذا الكتاب حدث بالأستاذ عدنان العظمة نحو العناية بهذا الكتاب الجليل من خلال مجموعة أمور منها إيضاح القواعد، وحذف ما أمكن من الإستطراد والتكرار الحاصل من تقسيم الكتاب إلى نص وشرح وغير ذلك، وتوَّج هذا العمل جهود الدكتور محمد علي سلطاني - رحمه الله - فقد ساهم في إستبعاد بعض مسائل النحو الخلافية وأغنى الكتاب بالشواهد القرآنية المناسبة للدلالة على القواعد المقصودة وتثبيتها بربطها بالمحفوظ القرآني، واستقصى إعراب الشواهد عامة الشعرية والقرآنية.
فالكتاب بحق كتاب تعليمي واف لتحقيق المراد في تكوين ثقافة نحْوية للطالب بقوة وإعداده للإرتقاء بجدارة إلى فهم النحو بيسر وسهولة.
