من العلوم النافعة المتعدية إلى سواها، علم النحو، فيه يستقيم اللسان، وتعرف مدارك الأحكام، فهو أُسسٌ من أساسيات العلوم الشرعية وأصل من أصولها، ولأهميته كثرت فيه المصنفات كثرة عظيمة ما بين منظوم ومنثور، وما بين كبير ووجيز. ومن بين هذه المصنفات، تظهر أرجوزة لطيفة الأبيات، عذبة النظم، يسيرة الحفظ، هي (مُلحة الإعراب) للإمام أبي محمد الحريري، وقد ارتضاها العلماء، وتداولها الفصحاء، وتناولها بالشرح والتعليق والتذييل والاختصار الفضلاء. ولما كان أمرها كذلك عني "علي حسن علي عبد الحميد" بتحقيقها وإخراجها في هذا الكتيب الذي هو واحد من سلسلة رسائل من التراث الإسلامي. وهدفه إلقاء الضوء على هذه الأرجوزة النفيسة، وإغناء المكتبة العربية بكتب هامة من كتب التراث القديم. أما عمله في الرسالة فتجلى بـ: ضبط نص الملحمة، والتقديم لها بمقدمة موجزة تعرف بها وبعمله بالتحقيق.
