يتناول المؤلف فى هذا الكتاب دراسة وتحليل موضوع الغزل فى شعر بشار بن برد صاحب النفس المتباينة المشاعر والشاعرية الخصبة التى لا نملك حيالها الا الاعجاب والتقدير فهو ذلك الاعمى احد مختصرمى الدوليتين الاموية والعباسية والتى استطاع ان ينهض بالشعر العباسى حتى عد زعيم المجددين العباسيين ولم يحاول المؤلف ان يتناول بالدراسة شعر بشار ابن برد من كل نواحية الفنية بل تناولها من جانب واحد فقط وهو جانب فن الغزل وذلك لان الغزل يمثل نصف شعر بشار فهو من اقرب الفنون الشعرية الى نفسه والذى يحاول من خلاله تعويض ما فاته من عالم المراه بفقده صبره لذلك فهو قطعه من نفسه وقد تبين المؤلف المنهج الاسلوبى فى دراسة غزليات بشار ذلك المنهج الذى يعد من اكثر المناهج المعاصرة قدرة على تحليل النص الادبى بطريقة اكثر موضوعية .
