يفترض المؤلّف أن النهوض فعلُ إنساني، لا تصنعه الخوارق والمعجزات بإستثناء واحدة، هي معجزة العقل والإرادة الإنسانيين.
إن النهوض والتخلف يتوقفان على الإنسان، الذي يصنع الأول، أو يكرس الثاني ويستكين له، والفيصل في الحالتين، هو أنماط التفكير بأرضيتها الثقافيّة ومرجعياتها المعرفيّة.
فالإنسان نتاج ثقافة، تْحدّد أنماط تفكيره، وتُقرِّر حركته وفعله في التاريخ والجغرافيا، وهو يتطور بتطوِّر أنماط تفكيره، وينهض بواقعه على هذا الأساس، وهذا ما ينسحب على الأمم والشعوب، التي بدورها تتقدم عندما تنهض في الثقافة والفكر.
سؤال النهوض، يكتسب مشروعية خاصة في ظلِّ مرحلةٍ إستثنائيّة تمرُّ بها شعوبنا العربية، وطريق النهوض مكلف وشاقُّ، لكن سلوكه ليس مستحيلاً.
فالنهوض لا بد له من مقدمات، أهمها تشخيص معوقاته بالبحث والدرس، إذ لا بدَّ لسلوك طريقه من قناديل فكريّة تنير عتمته وتستجلي غوامضه.
