تمثل الدولة الإيرانية قوة إقليمية لا يمكن تجاهلها بالنسبة للعالم العربي والعالم الإسلامى.. وقد تعددت صور العلاقة بين إيران وبين مصر التى تعد القوة الأولى فى الوطن العربي بين إبتعاد وإقتراب تعددت اسبابه. ومع هذا الكتاب الذى وضعه الدكتور (سعيد الصباغ) يمكننا قراءة دراسة تحليلية فى هذه العلاقة بالأخص فيما يتعلق بالفترة الزمنية من 1970 وحتى عام 1981 وقد كان التناول لهذه العلاقة شاملاً حيث تتناول العلاقات المتبادلة بينهما والعلاقات الخارجية لكل منهما.. فنجد الفصل الأول فى البيئة الخارجية للعلاقات المصرية- الإيرانية متمثلة فى علاقة كل من إيران ومصر بالقونين العظمتين آنذاك وهى الإتحاد السوفيتى والولايات المتحدة وكذلك العامل الإسرائيلى فى هذه العلاقات. أما الفصل الثانى فكان متابعاً لتطور العلاقات بين الدولتين مستكملاً لتفاصيلها بتوضيح صور التعامل المصرى- افيرانى فى الفصل الثالث. أما الفصل الرابع والأخير فكان فى الفترة 1978 وحتى 1981م حيث إحتلت القطيعة الصدارة فبحث فى عواملها وابعادها من خلال عدة زوايا إنها دراسة تعكس رؤية تفصيلية وتحليلية فى فترة تاريخية ماجت بالعديد من التطورات التى وصلت غلى درجة عالية فى التقارب فى أحيان وفى أحيان أخرى إلى القطعية.
يفسر هذا الكتاب الجديد والهام القطيعة التى عرفتها العلاقات المصرية ـ الإيرانية منذ عام 1979، بعد استيلاء الثورة الإسلامية على الحكم فى البلاد والتي تبدو كأنها لغز بالنسبة لكثير من المصريين والعرب، بذات الدرجة التى بدا بها الوصال بين البلدين الذى عرفته تلك العلاقات خلال الفترة التى أعقبت وفاة عبد الناصر عام 1970 وحتى بدايات الثورة الإسلامية بعد ثمانى سنوات، إذ كانت من قبل يغلب عليها لون من الجفاء نتيجة للعلاقات الخاصة التى ربطت بين الشاهنشاه الجالس على عرش الطاووس وبين إسرائيل. الكتاب الذى بين أيدينا الذى وضعه الدكتور سعيد الصباغ يسعى إلى تفسير هذا اللغز ونرى أنه من خلال دراسة موضوعية معتمدة، عرض فيها لكل وجهات النظر، المصرية والإيرانية، ساعده فى ذلك معرفته باللغة الفارسية، وقد تمكن من التوصل إلى الحل.
