"إنحصرت العلاقات المصرية – الإيرانية، خلال الأعوام الثلاثين الماضية، بين التوتر والفتور، وذلك على خلفية توقيع مصر معاهدة السلام مع إسرائيل، وأستقبال الرئيس محمد أنور السادات لشاه إيران عقب الثورة الإسلامية بإيران عام 1979 التي أطاحت بالشاه محمد رضا بهلوي، ثم دعم مصر للعراق في حربها مع إيران، وإتهام الأخيرة برعاية الإرهاب في الشرق الأوسط، ودعم الجماعات الإسلامية المسلحة في مصر خلال فترة التسعينيات.
كما لعب تناقض سياسة البلدين في منهج إدارة أو حل الصراع العربي - الإسرائيلي دورًا أساسيًا في تفاقم توتر العلاقات بينهما، في ظل شيوع حالة من الحساسية المفرطة لدى النظام المصري إزاء أي دعم إيراني للمقاومة أو إدانة إيرانية لعملية السلام وأطرافها، حيث ترى مصر هذه الأدوار الإيرانية محاولات لتعرية مصداقية الخيار المصري، ومحاولة لدعم ثقافة المقاومة على حساب ثقافة السلام التي انحازت لها القاهرة طيلة تلك الأعوام الثلاثين.
تسعى هذه الدراسة إلي رصد وتحليل وتفسير اتجاهات الخطاب الصحفي المصري نحو العلاقات المصرية - الإيرانية وعلاقته بتوجه النظام السياسي المصري في الفترة من ديسمبر 2008 حتى نهاية 2013 بالتطبيق على صحف (الأخبار، المصري اليوم، الأحرار، عقيدتى الإسلامية، وطني القبطية). وتجمع الدراسة التحليلية بين مواد الرأي والمواد الإخبارية، وتستند الدراسة على مواد الرأي بما تشتمل عليه من أعمدة ومقالات وافتتاحيات وحوارات باعتبارها من الفنون الصحفية التى تعبر عن الاتجاهات الصحفية نحو القضية محل الدراسة، كما تهتم بتحليل المواد الإخبارية التى تساعد في رصد تصريحات وخطابات النظام الحاكم تجاه العلاقات المصرية – الإيرانية، لرصد مدى اهتمام الصحف بالعلاقات المصرية الإيرانية والقوى الفاعلة بالخطاب الصحفي بالإضافة إلى رصد العلاقة بين اتجاهات خطاب الصحافة والنظام السياسي.
