بالنسبة لمن لم يكن قد عرفها جيدا , فهي مجرد أخت الفنانة التشكيلية الكبيرة إنجي أفلاطون وزوج المناضل والاقتصادي المعروف إسماعيل صبري عبد الله , ولم يعرف إلا أصدقاؤها الحميمون أنها كانت تكتب بالفرنسية , وقد نشر لها نصان فى فرنسا ( قصة قصيرة بعنوان 21 فبراير فى مجلة الآداب الفرنسية , وديوان شعر ( حجر على الطريق ) في 1955.
تروى هذه السيرة الذاتية جميع التفاصيل الشخصية , لكنها فى الأساس كتابة فى التاريخ الاجتماعي لمصر الحديثة , وتؤكد مقولة التاريخ , إذ يروى قصة من صنعوا التاريخ , ومن عانوا منه , ومن تحدثوا عنه فى الشارع أو فى المنازل والملتقيات.
الشكر للمترجمات الثلاث الماهرات ( سهير فهمى وماجدة الريدى ةنجاة بلحاتم اللائى ) فهمن أن هذا الكتاب المكتوب في الأصل بالفرنسية , إنما يتحدث بالعربية عن حب مصر.
