إن الغرض من هذه الدراسة هو محاولة إثبات أن هناك دوراً وأهميّة للميتافيزيقا في بناء العلم، وقد ظهرت هذه القضية (أي حضور الميتافيزيقا في النظريات العلمية) بعد حدوث الثورة العلمية الثانية "النسبة والكوانتم"، التي غيرت معها أنظمة التفكير في جميع مستويات ونواحي الفكر. ولكن هذه المسألة (أي مشكلة العلاقة بين العلم والميتافيزيقا) واجه انتقادات كثيرة بين الرافضين لها والمؤيدين. حيث قامت الوضعية المنطقية منتقدة الميتافيزيقا نقداً عنيفاً ومعتبرة قضاياها خالية من المعنى لأنها غير قابلة للتثبّت التجريبي فلا يمكن لها أن تمارس أي دور في بناء العلم ونظرياته، بل علينا إقصائها من دائرة البحث العلمي. وكانوا ينظرون إلى مشكلة الميتافيزيقا على أنها مشكلة فكرية بحتة لا يمكن أن تكون مرجعاً للمعرفة العلمية، إلا أننا مع جديد فلسفة العلوم لاسيما في مجال بعض النظريات العلمية المعاصرة على مستويات مختفلة في البيولوجيا الجزيئيية والفيزياء المعاصرة "النسبية والكوانتيم"، ظهرت مع هذه العلوم مصطلحات ميتافيزيقة لا يمكن الاستغناء عنها مثل (الزمن الخيالي - اللادقة - اللاحتمية - السببية - الجسيمات دون الذرية - الواقعية.. الخ)، من هنا نواجه مرة أخرى مشكلة دور الميتافيزيقا في بناء العلم.
من هذا المنطلق قمنا بعرض المشكلة من منظورين مختلفين، إحدهما يمثل الاتجاه الرافض المتمثل (بالوضعية المنطقية)، والآخر يمثل الاتجاه المؤيد والمتمثل (بالعقلانية النقدية في شخصية فيلسوفها "كارل بوبر").
