الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا يجمع بين نهجين متكاملين هما النهج العلمي والنهج الميتافيزيقي، عبر رؤية تكاملية ارتقائية. رؤية محكومة بمبدأ فلسفي يقرر بأن عملية التطور والتكامل تجري عبر سلسلة تصاعدية من الأدنى إلى الأعلى، والأدنى لا يشكل بذاته سبباً كافياً لظهور الأعلى، بل لا بد من علة تسد الفجوة الوجودية الحاصلة بين درجة الوجود الأدنى ودرجة الوجود الأعلى. فالبعد الوجودي المادي للإنسان، بما فيه جهازه العصبي المركزي، هو المادة الأساسية التي انبثق منها بعده السيكولوجي والروحي، لكنه بذاته ليس العلة الفاعلة ولا السبب المركزي في حدوث الارتقاء إلى المستوى النفسي والروحي، بل لا بد من علة تضاف من الخارج إلى ذلك الوجود الأدنى تتصاعد به إلى وجوده الأرقى، كما يضاف ضوء الشمس إلى النبتة لكي ترتقي إلى شجرة مثمرة. وهذه النظرية في التطور الجوهري يمكن أن تجيب عن إشكالات فلسفية وعلمية عدة منها: 1. تصلح لتفسير العلاقة بين العقل والجسم المادي في الإنسان من دون الوقوع في صعوبات الثنائية الافلاطونية والديكارتية. 2. تفسر تطور الحياة الارتقائي من حياة بدائية بسيطة إلى حياة معقدة تتناسب مع ظهور الوعي في الإنسان العاقل، عبر سلسلة متصلة من التطور الجوهري، وبذلك فهي تنسجم مع العلم. 3. الوعي هو سبب إضفاء المعنى على العالم، وبما أن الوعي حاصل عملية ارتقاء جوهري، فهذا يعني أن المعنى ارتقائي تكاملي، وبالتالي فالثقافة والفكر والفلسفة حركة عقلية ارتقائية متواصلة، تتطور ما دام الوعي في حالة ارتقاء لامتناهٍ. 4. تصور الكون معادلة متعددة الأبعاد، ففضلاً عن القوى الفيزيائية الإيجابية والسلبية، يدخل العقل كقوة إدراكية، والبعد النفسي أو الروحي كمجال تفاعلي، فيحصل ثراء في المعرفة. 5. تجيب على نحو منطقي عن الأسئلة المتعلقة بالظواهر الباراسيكولوجية، فهي تنظر إلى تلك الظواهر باعتبارها تعبيراً عن تفاعل مادي ـ نفسي في الإنسان. يتجاوز الأبعاد الفيزيائية التقليدية. 6. تفسر ظاهرة الموت تفسيراً مميزاً، فالموت لا يخرج عن عملية التطور الجوهري، ولم يكن حالة نكوص، أو تلاشٍ أو عدم، وإنما يعبر عن ارتقاء وجودي للكيان الإنساني، فالاضمحلال المادي للإنسان يقابله ارتقاء عقلي وروحي له.
