يعدّ فيلون أول فيلسوف جمع بين الفلسفة واللاهوت، فكان لاهوتياً أكثر من كونه فيلسوفاً، وقد تزعم المدرسة الفكرية في الاسكندرية التي جمعت بين التوحيد اليهودي وفلسفة أفلاطون. تأثرت فلسفته عن اللوغوس بمصادر يونانية عدة، كان أبرزها ما جاء في فلسفة هرقليطس والرواقية وأنكساغوراس، بأن اللوجوس هو النوس أو العقل الإلهي، والقوة المدبرة للكون، والحافظة له.
لقد حاول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب تعريف القارئ العربي بمدرسة فلسفية قديمة لم يسلط عليها الضوء بالقدر الكافي، فتناول وبالدراسة مواضيع فلسفية دقيقية وغير تقليدية عند فيلون اليهودي السكندري من خلال دراسة اللوجوس والتأويل الرمزي ووضع الفلسفة في خدمة الدين والشخصية المصرية والحركة السوفسطائية في الإسكندرية في القرن الأول الميلادي، منهياً كتابه بدراسة عن نظرية الأخلاق عند فيلون والتي نجح فيها من وجهة نظر المؤلف في التوفيق بين المبادئ الأخلاقية التي جاءت في الفلسفة اليونانية القديمة والمبادئ الأخلاقية التي نصت عليها التوراة.
