تكمن أهمية هذا الكتاب في ربط الماسونية بالفكر الربوبي الأوروبي وبالأفكار التأليهية التي مهدت الطريق أمام إنبثاق عصر الأنوار.
ويفند الكتاب الأغاليط التي شاعت في النصوص العربية عن الماسونية وتاريخها الملتبس، ويدحض، في الوقت نفسه، الرواية الماسونية التي تعيد بداياتها إلى نحو 2500 عام قبل الميلاد، ويبرهن على أنها جمعية حرفية حديثة من بين الجمعيات التي عرفتها أوروبا في العصور الوسطى.
ويعقد المؤلف مقارنة بين الجمعيات الحرفية الأوروبية والطوائف الحرفية العربية ثم يعقد مقارنة إضافية بين الملاحدة العرب وأفكارهم، وبين الربوبية الأوروبية، وذلك في سياق إستقرائي نكتشف من خلاله الفروق بين الإلحاد العربي الذي كان ينكر النبوات ولا ينكر الخالق، والفكر الربوبي الأوروبي الذي لم ينكر الخالق، وإنما أنكر المعجزات الواردة في الكتاب المقدس.
غاية هذا الكتاب هي إيضاح ما استشكل في شأن الماسونية العربية التي لم يكن لها أي شأن سياسي لهم، والهدف، هو الدفاع عن العلم، ومحاولة إعادة التاريخ إلى نصابه الصحيح، وتقديم المساهمة نقدية في فهم دوافع كثير من الأعلام العرب ممن انتموا إلى الماسونية في بعض المراحل أمثال عبد القادر الجزائري والإمام محمد عبده وعبد الرحمن الكواكبي والشيخ طاهر الجزائري وعبد الرحمن الشهبندر وغيرهم كثير جداً.
