ليس هذا الحوار سيرةً فكريةً للدكتور عزمي بشارة، فسيرته الفكريّة هي مؤلّفاته الكثيرة المنتشرة في بقاع العالم العربي كلّه؛ وهو ليس سيرةً سياسيّةً في الوقت نفسه، لأنّ وقائع أيّامه المعروفة هي نضاله في فلسطين، وفي سبيل فلسطين، منذ يفاعته وإلى ما بعد خروجه القسريّ من بلاده، وهو ليس سيرةً شخصيّة فحسب، إنّما هو عصارةٌ لتلك التجربة الثريّة المتعدّدة الجوانب.
وعزمي بشارة، مفكّراً، ومناضلاً، هو الخلاصة الفريدة لجيلٍ فلسطينيّ جديد رمى خلفه الخوف من الحكم العسكريّ الإسرائيليّ، وراح يسير في بلاده مفتخراً بهويّته الفلسطينيّة.
وفي هذا الحوار يكشف عزمي بشارة زيف الديمقراطيّة العرقيّة في إسرائيل، ويجول في شعاب فلسطين والسلام المستحيل، وسوريّة وآلامها، والبعث والناصريّة واليسار، والنهضة والعلمانيّة والديمقراطيّة، والإسلاميّين الجدد وحزب الله والماركسيّة.
وفي هذا الحقل يصرّ على أن ماركس لم يطوّر نظريّةً فلسفيّةً قائمةً بذاتها (الماركسيّة)، وأنّ ما سمّي "المادّيّة الجدليّة" ليس فلسفةً تماماً، وأنّ الإصرار على إعتبارها فلسفةً قوّض إمكان تطوّر الفلسفة في البلدان الإشتراكيّة القديمة.
وفي السياق نفسه لا يرى عزمي بشارة أنّ ثمّة تناقضاً بين الدين والحداثة، وأنّ الدين ليس نظريةً خاطئةً يمكن تنفيذها بالعلم، بل إنّ ما يمكن دحضه بالعلم هو المقولات الدينيّة المفسّرة للكون.
ومن البديهيّ أن هذا الكتاب سيضيف إلى أدب الحوار مدماكاً معرفيّاً جديداً، وسيشكّل مرجعاً لا غنى عنه في إكتشاف تجربة المواجهة مع النظام السياسيّ الإسرائيليّ، وتجربة التصدّي لقضايا الفكر والسياسة والثورات في العالم العربيّ.
