في هذا الكتاب يطل الدكتور حسن عباس نصر الله على مدينة بعلبك في لبنان وبالتحديد "الحياة الإجتماعية في بعلبك" في مختلف تمظهراتها وثقافتها وتاريخها العريق.
قسّم المؤلف كتابه إلى أحد عشر فصلاً جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: الفصل الأول: (الهوية والإنتماء) يدرس النسيج الإجتماعي للأحياء طائفياً ومذهبياً مع ذكر لأهم العائلات. الفصل الثاني: (التقاليد والعادات) ويبحث في التقاليد الراسخة والتقاليد الضاجة بالمحبة، وترابط الأسرة، والتعاون والإحترام المتبادل والتراث المحكي باللغة الواحدة والمشاعر الواحدة. الفصل الثالث: (التراث الشعبي – الفلكلور): ونستمع فيه إلى الدلعونا، روزانا، غزيل، جملو، ظريف الطول وأجمل ما فيه (العتابا). الفصل الرابع: (اللهجات) فلكل عائلة لهجتها ومفرداتها، شعب رفض التتريك، وتمسك بلغته وناضر من أجلها. الفصل الخامس: (الأدب الشعبي) ويلقي الضوء على الأدب الشعبي مقابل الأدب الفصيح، وتوارثه عبد الأجيال. الفصل السادس: (النهضة الأدبية) في الشعر والأدب وعالم الصحافة وتعليم اللغات والعلوم والرياضيات وغيرها. الفصل السابع: (العلاقة بين رجل الأمن والمواطن في بلاد بعلبك) يرى فيها المؤلف علاقة صدامية لأن البعلبكي "بفطرته يعشق الحرية والتحرر والرجولة ...". الفصل الثامن: (الثأر): يربطه المؤلف بالنزعة القبلية ويقوم على القصاص مقابل الظلم الواقع على الفرد بعيدا عن القانون. الفصل التاسع: (الحياة الصحية) وفيه إطلالة على الطب الشعبي الكي آخر الدواء، والحجامة، والرقية، إضافة إلى الطب الحديث. أما الفصل العاشر (الحياة الإقتصادية) صناعة، أيدي ماهرة، سياحة، وغيرها، يأتي (الفصل الحادي عشر) والأخير بعنوان (المأكل والملبس) وفيه نتذوق نكهة مطبخ بعلبك "ما فيه حلاوة إلا ببعلبك"، والصفيحة البعلبكية والتوابل، أما لباس الناس فكان: الحرير والقطن والكتان أنتجها الإنسان البعلبكي مع العباءة والحطاطة والعقال.
