يعتبر الكذب من المشكلات التي تفقد الفرد توافقه النفسي والاجتماعي مع البيئة التي يعيشها، مما يدفعه جاهداً لتبرير أخطائه على الدوام للتخلص من المواقف القاسية وغير السارة عن طريق التفنن والإبداع لإيجاد ألوان كذب مقنعة تحقق الهدف والغاية.
لذا يعد الكذب اضطراباً سلوكياً عندما يتحول إلى عادة متأصلة وسلوك ثابت في شخصية الفرد عند تعامله مع الآخرين وكذبه على الدوام لإخفاء الحقيقة الواقعة. وتشكل الأسرة بعداً أساس في هذه المشكلة التي يعاني منها الفرد حيث تغرز هذه العادة وتساهم في تغذيتها نتيجة التقصير والإهمال في التربية من جهة، أو جهود نماذج وقدرات تعاني من الكذب في المنزلة أو المؤسسة من جهة أخرى.
