خلف القضبان اليائسة وسنين العمر تتساقط في زنازين العزلة تاركة معها ربيع العمر، كانت المفاجئة التي أُذهلت البعض وأثارت الكثير من الظنون والتساؤلات لدى آخرين في ظل ما عرف بالمراجعات وهي حالة جديدة انسحبت أيضاً إلى بلدان أخرى فيما بعد حيث حذت حذوٍ الجماعة الإسلامية في الجديدة قراءاتها للواقع ومراجعاتها لأصولها وقواعدها ومنطلقاتها الفقهية في التغيير، وهو ما أهلها للخروج إلى فضاء الحرية بعد تلك السنين الطويلة وإن بقى التضييق والمنع.
من داخل إحدى تلك الزنازين كانت السطور الأولى لهذا الكتاب الذي عمل مؤلفه على إيضاح خريطة الجماعة وبنيتها من الداخل محاولاً الجمع بين أسلوبين وهما الجانب الروائي والتوثيقي والأكاديمي متناولاً بدايات الإنتماء لهذه الجماعة ومروراً بنشاطه فيها طيلة 20 عاماً أمضى معظمها في السجون وإنتهاءً بتلك العوامل التي جعلتهم يمارسون العنف، ثم وأخيراً تاريخ الجماعة من عين أحد قواعدها واحد الذين عاصروا مبادرة وقف العنف، وكان شاهداً على التحولات بكاملها.
