(اتنولوجي في المترو)، عمل أنتروبولوجي ولكنه ليس بالمعنى الكلاسيكي للكلمة؛ يتخذ مطّية له الأدب والشعر والإنشاء في اللغة والتنقير في العواطف والذكريات؛ فردية وجماعية وقبل ذلك مشاعر مؤلفه نفسه وذكرياته.
وكتاب اتنولوجي في المترو كما صرح به عنوانه هو أركيولوجيا في الذات الإنسانية المتفجعة من مصيرها ومنزلها في الكون وهي تعيش الموت من خلال الحب والحب من خلال الموت في اتصال جدلي لا تنفصم عراه أبد الدهر... يفتتح هذا الكتاب ويقفل بالتعبير عن هذا القلق الأزلي الذي لازم الإنسانية منذ ولادتها إلى اليوم وعبرت عنه بأشكال مختلفة باختلاف ثقافاتها ولغاتها، هذا الاختلاف الذي هو مشغل الأنتروبولوجيا وهاجسها الأول. فمنذ أول جملة في هذا الكتاب يتراءى "أوجيه" للقارئ أركولوجياً بقدر ما هو اتنولوجي، أركيولوجي للذاكرة وللمترو الباريسي على حد السواء معبراً عن هذا القلق المتعاظم للإنسان الأنتروبوس (Anthropos) على مصيره من بني جنسه الاتنوس (ethnos)...
يرى مؤلف الكتاب أن "كل الثقافات مختلفة ولكن ليس هناك واحدة منها غريبة عن الأخرى أو غير مفهومة بالنسبة إليها بصفة جذرية. هكذا أعبّر عنها، على الأقل من ناحيتي. هناك آخرون يقفون عند الشطر الأول للجملة ويؤكدون إما على الطابع غير القابل للاختزال... أو على الطابع المتذبذب والتقريبي والهش لكل الأوصاف والشروح والتفسيرات الأنتروبولوجية... إن تجربة المترو (أقرّ بوجود تجارب أخرى ولكن تجربة المترو تظل نموذجية) تدعوني إلى استبدال ما يمكن أن نسميه مفارقة الآخر (بالتشديد على هذا الآخر لكونه آخر ثقافياً)" كل هذه المفارقات استقاها المؤلف من حياته الشخصية في محاولة لفهم الكيفية التي يولد بها معنى الحياة الفردية من أحشاء الإكراهات الشاملة التي هي إكراهات كل حياة اجتماعية، وهذا يعني، أن لكلّ مجتمعٍ المترو الخاص به ويفرض على كل فرد المسارات حيث يختبر على وجه الخصوص معنى علاقته بالآخرين فيها.
