قد لا تجد من علماء العربية وطلابها من لم يتردد على صفحات من كتب الجاحظ يقلبها ويقف على بعض ما فيها، ولا تجد من لم يتعرف على شخصية الجاحظ أو بعض من ملامح تلك الشخصية الفذة من خلال كتبه ورسائله التي كان لها أبلغ الأثر في تاريخ الأدب والبيان والفكر العربي، فقد شغل الجاحظ حيزًا واسعًا من إهتمام الباحثين والدارسين وقراء الأدب وتاريخه وما زال مشغلة الدارسين وموضوع تقديرهم، حتى أن كتبه ما تزال عمدة مصادر الأدب العربي، فقد خط بأفكاره وآرائه قضايا أدبية وبلاغية ونقدية مازالت موضع جدل ونقاش حتى يومنا الراهن، لذا حاولت هذه الدراسة رصد مسيرة الجاحظ المتميزة من خلال الجمع بين حقائق التاريخ وخصائص الأدب وأقاويل الرواة والمؤرخين، ممتزجة بتحليلات نفسية تخص الجاحظ وشخصيته، وآراء اجتماعية تخص المجتمع الذي نشأ فيه الجاحظ وما كان يموج به من تيارات ومذاهب، وقد تعقبت الدراسة كل ما يخص صاحبنا الجاحظ منذ مولده ونشأته الاولى ومرورًا بمراحل حياته وأطوارها المتعاقبة في البصرة وبغداد وغيرهما، واتصاله بالوزراء والخلفاء ودفاعه عن العروبة ضد الشعوبية، ووصولًا إلى الوقوف على نتاجه وما طرحه من أفكار ونظريات في مختلف العلوم الإنسانية من أدب وبلاغة ونقد وتاريخ وعلم نفس وعلم اجتماع، ثم الوقوف على ما تركه من كتب ومصنفات في شتى العلوم والمعارف، لنجد في النهاية أن الجاحظ كان وبحق موسوعة علمية ومعرفية تفخر بها حضارتنا العربية والإسلامية، وتفرض علينا أن نقترب من هؤلاء الرواد لنتعرف على صفحات مضيئة من تاريخهم ومنجزهم الحضاري.
