"ما أطيبك يا مريم! قال. آه كم أنا مشتاق إليك. ضحك يوسف، قهقه. أنت أطيب ما في الوجود. حاول أن ينظر في عينيها. ألا نشرب من الحب ثانية؟ قال لا تفعل! قالت مريم باقتضاب، أنفاسها بحجم المساحات في الجلود. اغتصبها يوسف ثانية، لبس بدلته العسكرية، دار ظهره ليخرج شتمته مريم أطلقت عليه وابلاً من التهديد. نظر إليها من فوق كتفه، قال، سأعود غداً أنهاراً، الأفضل لك أن تستقبليني بالأناشيد، أطبق الباب بعنف، والباب اصطفق، تصورت مريم نفسها تغرق، أحسّت أنها تهوى داخل نفسها، تهوى إلى القعر حيث أعضاؤها تتفرق، كل كلمة سكين، كل كلمة سكين،كل همسة خنجر، إن مريم تتمزق، لن تعطيه نفسها طوعاً بعد الذي حصل، وسيغتصبها يوماً بعد يوم، وشهراً بعد شهر، تعرف أنها فكرة نفسها، لكنها لن تنتحر تعرف أنها لن تهرب، تعلمت كيف تواجه الخطر. ولكن كيف تواجه الآن زوجها، كيف تواجه الذل والقهر. فتحت الباب بعدما طرقنه كثيراً... لماذا تواجه الموت في وجهك يا مريم؟ قالت إقبال: أنت لا زالت عروساً بالحب تحلم"، سمعناك تصرخين، هل أوجعك أقوامه أم الأحجام؟ اغتصبي قالب مريم، كأنها تزيح عن روحها الصخر... تبسمن.. أنا زوجي اغتصبي، قالت إقبال،، الدم في وجهها أزهر.. تركني على الأرض أجمع شتات نفسي... وهانحن، أحبه ويحبني، كفى، كفى، صرخت مريم. كفانا نتخذهم أحباباً وعشاقاً وأزواجاً ويتخذوننا أعداء. إذا أحبونا اتخذونا أداة، جسوراً تعبرها الرغباب".
شاعر مهجري مبدع، مزج القصة بالشعر، فجاءت كتاباته مبشرة بثورة تعبيرية اجتمعت فيها لغة بعيدة عن الرموز، قريبة من لغة الإنسان العادي، وحبكة منسوجة من خيوط الحرب الأهلية، وموضوع مستوحى من مخلفات هذه الحرب في عقلية الفرد، فجاء الشعر على يديه يغني أبطالاً من عامة الشعب يفكرون بعقلانية ديمقراطية، في عالم هشمت قبضة المسدس فيه، كل المبادئ والقيم...
