يكتسب هذا الكتاب أهمية قصوى في الوقت الحاضر، حيث يعمّ الاضطراب سوق النفط العالمية، وكذلك بحكم القيود التي تحملها اتفاقيات الغات ومنظمة التجارة العالمية، أو نتيجة للاهتمام العالمي المتزايد بحماية البيئة وما تمخض عنه من اتفاقيات دولية تهدد الصادرات النفطية، مثل بروتوكول كيوتو. ويؤكد الكتاب أن الاستثمار الأمثل للثروة النفطية وإدارتها يمكن أن يكونا نقطة الانطلاق على طريق التنمية العربية المتكاملة، والمتواصلة في ظل سياسية نفطية منسقة عربياً. ويدعو الدول النفطية في المنطقة العربية إلى تنسيق سياساتها الإنتاجية والتصديرية مع إيران وفنزويلا بما يدرأ عنها الأضرار الناجمة عن تنفيذ الاتفاقيات الدولية، وخصوصاً أن درجة التركز، خلال المستقبل المنظور – كما يتنبأ مؤلف الكتاب – لا تتجه إلى الارتفاع في الإنتاج العالمي للنفط فقط، بل تتجه إلى الارتفاع أيضاً، وبدرجة أكبر، في الصادرات النفطية، وأن إجمالي العجز في احتياجات العالم من النفط يتوقع أن تقوم أوبك بتوفيره.
