حسين أحمد أمين هو كاتب ومفكر ودبلوماسي مصري، أشهر ما كتب هو كتاب "دليل المسلم الحزين" والذي يشرح حال المسلم اليوم الذي بدأت ثقته تتزعزع بنفسه وبدينه إذ يرى الغرب غير المسلم يتقدم ويتطور في حين يصعب على المسلم مجاراة ذلك التطور فأضحى مسلما حزيناً. كما يصحح بطريقة منهاجية وعقلانية كثير من المفاهيم التي أقحمت في الدين.
أهم كتبه
ولد في القاهرة في 19 يونيو 1932 وتوفى في 16 أبريل 2014. وهو نجل المؤرخ الإسلامي الكبير الدكتور أحمد أمين وأخاه الكاتب جلال أمين تخرج في كلية الحقوق، جامعة القاهرة عام 1953.
عمل محامياً، فمذيعاً بالإذاعة المصرية، فمذيعاً بالقسم العربي بهيئة الإذاعة البريطانية. التحق بالسلك الدبلوماسي المصري وعمل ملحقاً فسكرتيراً ثانياً بالسفارة في موسكو (الاتحاد السوفييتي). فمستشاراً بالسفارة في لاجوس (نيجيريا)، فوزيراً مفوضاً بالسفارة في بون (ألمانيا الاتحادية)، فقنصلاً عاماً في ريو دي جانيرو (البرازيل)، ثم سفيراً لمصر في الجزائر.
انتدب خلال عمله بوزارة الخارجية مستشاراً فنياًَ لوزير الثقافة آنذاك يوسف السباعي. كما أعير للعمل نائباً لمدير مركز الأمم المتحدة للإعلام بالقاهرة.
وقد حصل كتابه دليل المسلم الحزين على جائزة أحسن كتاب في معرض القاهرة الدولي للكتاب عام 1984.

يضم هذا الكتاب ثلاثا وعشرين دراسة شائقة في اللغة، والتراث والأدب، والتاريخ، والدين، يصل مؤلفها في أكثرها إلى نتائج لم يسبق إليها. من بينها : * تحديد المسئولية عن تباطؤ تطور اللغة العربية بعد قرون أثبتت هذه اللغة خلالها مرونة مذهلة وقدرة على أن تكون أداة لكل ما نقل إليها من علوم الفرس والهنسد واليونان وغيرهم. *سر لجوء بعض المؤلفين والشعراء العرب إلى نسبة كتبهم وقصائدهم إلى مؤلفين وشعراء آخرين! * تفسير لظاهرة تناول كتب ككتاب"ألف ليلة" بل ومسرحيات شكسبير!، بالحذف والتغيير. * سر الاستخفاف الشيديد الذي أبداه ويبدية المؤرخون العرب بالمملكة العربية زنوبيا ( وهى التى وصفها المؤرخ جيبون بأنها أعظم ملكات التاريخ) في حين يبدي أعداؤها من الفرنجة الذين حاربتهم وجاهدتهم لسنوات عديدة نحوها إجلالا وتوقيرا عميقين. * هل الحوار بين الأديان ممكن؟ فإن كان ممكنا فهل هو مفيد؟ * السبب في أن موقف الجماهير العريضة من المصلحين الدينيين المعتدلين هو في الغالب موقف عدائي. * التكوين النفسي للمتدينين المتشددين، وتأثير نشأتهم الأولى في تكييف موقفهم من الحياة. عشرات من مثل هذه الأسئلة قد يفاجأ القارئ بما ورد في هذا الكتاب من ردود عليها.
