يضم هذا الكتاب دراسة تتناول القواعد الأساسية التي تتحكم بالذهنية العربية، أي بالمسالك والمذاهب المكتسبة التي نتعامل معها وكأنها واقع قاطع دون العودة إلى التحليل والتعليل، والذهنية التي يعنيها المؤلف هنا هي الحس اللاشعوري الذي يثير الإنسان للتحرك والعمل بشكل عفوي.
وتبين هذه الدراسة عن الذهنية العربية؛ أهمية الإيديولوجيا في المسالك العادية التي تمارس يوماً بعد يوم، وكيف ترتبط هذه المسالك اليومية بالأمور العليا كالدين والثقافة واللغة والتراث، بمعنى آخر، هناك ذهنية باطنية يحاول المؤلف رصدها والكشف عنها وهي تلك التي تجمع بين الأمور اليومية كالمخاطبة واستعمال الألقاب وفنون اللعب من جهة، والشؤون العليا كالدين والشعر والهندسة المعمارية وغيرها من الجهة الأخرى.
إلى جانب ذلك فإنه هذه الدراسة تبرز بعض النماذج الحضارية عند العرب، وبعض المسلمات الذهنية التي تتحكم فيها إن باطناً أو ظاهراً، هذه النماذج التي تتمحور حول الفرد وعلاقته بالمجموعة، أي كينونة الفرد في المجتمع، أو "المجتمع" في ذهنية الفرد.
