وحدي الآن صاعدٌ جبلي الأقدس كمن ينزل في جهنم... كفني تحتي... جسدي الذي مضى مُلقى في شعاب الأرض... يُمسك بيد الذكرى، حتى لا تذريه الريح... ذكرى جسد آخر مشلوح في الأرض يُذكرني بخطيئتي... يكوي رمادي البارد، لأني هذا الجسد أنا تركته أيضاً... جسد الحبيبة... أنا صاعد وحدي... وكل ما عَلِقَ عليّ من قشور الأرض حصّادةُ النار المقدّسة تأخذه.
لكن عليّ خطيئة الأرض التي لا تُمحى، وها أنا ذا صاعدٌ هذا الجبل لأمحوها، والأرض الجميلة ستنسى خطيئتي، الإثم الأعظم الذي ارتكبته بحق حبي باسم الحب... آه... ستنسى الأرض... لأنّي فوق القمم سأنشد نشيد النار الذي يُنزل إليها الله.
صاعدٌ وحدي... منّي تنزل أكفاني... عنّي تتساقط... صاعدٌ وحدي... بدمي أقدّ النار بهذا الجبل المقدّس... أنا نفسي... العاري... أنا ألسنة النار التي تشلح ثوبها الرمادي لتلبس الحلّة السماوية الزرقاء... حلّة اللهب الأقدس... آه... يا شمس... مدّي لي خيوطك لأحترق أكثر فاللهب الأزرق لا يصعد مني إلاّ لمّا أصبح السماء اللامبالية بأشياء الأرض العزيزة (أدونيس).
في الكتاب الأول من رائعة عشتار... "عشتار حب البشر وأقدار الآلهة"... يترك أدونيس حبيبته المفجوعة التي أقامته بدموعها من الموت ويذهب في خضمّ آلام الإلهة المعذّبة ليؤدّي الرسالة التي عاد لأجلها، وهي أن ينشر المحبة بين البشر و"بالحب يملأ الأرض بالآلهة".
في هذا الكتاب "أدونيس" في محراب الحب والقيامة، يعود الإله التائب بعد ألفي عام ليبحث عن الحبيبة عشتار، فالبشر لم يصيروا آلهة، والأرض وقلوب أبنائها امتلأت بالبغضاء، الإله الذي صُلب من أجل رسالته، وسبقته حبيبته إلى صليبها لمّا تركها، يعود ليمسح الخطيئة الكبرى... لا خطيئة البشر، بل خطيئة هو بحق حبه... لكن هذا الإله يبقى إلهاً رغماً عنه...
