أيها الوطن الساكن بين القلب والضمير، مشتاقة لوصية تهمسها فى أذني، لنسمة تداعب وجهي، لرذاذ دجلة يرطب هواجسي، لتمرة عراقية تذوب فى رضابي، لصوت آذان يصحبني ويقول لى الله يرقب تشتتي بعيداً عنك.
أيها الوطن الذي يكبر داخلي كلما ابتعدت عنه، واصغي لهدهدته حين أغفو الصمت المترع بالألم ولا أدري أين أخبئ وجهي حتى لا يكبر ضعفي الذى لا تريده لي.
قيل لي إن ترابك غاضب وهو يضم رفات أطفالك وشبابك وشيوخك. قيل لي إن أرضك المقدسة يرفع آذانها ولا يصمت إلا ليلتقط أنفاسه فيما تشق لوعة الثكالى طاقة احتمال صدرك الذى يضمنا جميعاً أينما كنا.
قيل لى إن مساجدك وحسينياتك وكنائسك وكل دور العبادة فيك تطلها أقدام الأغراب التى تعيث فى قدسيتها الخراب.
قيل لي إنك تلتفت بحثا عنا ويأخذك التعب ليل ونهار، لكنك لا تغفو خشية علينا، وخوفا من أنصال وحشية تبحث عن مساحة جديدة فى خاصرتيك.
قيل لي أنك تعرف لماذا تعشش الطيور الآن بعيداً عن المنائر والقباب بانتظار من ينثر لها السلام بدل الدمار، ولم أعد أدري كيف أداري خيبتي بالبعاد عنك، وكيف أقاوم ذلك الخوف عليك والذي كان مخبئا فى مكان ما حين كنت فيك.
