جاء هذا المعجم الفلسفي متضمناً لأهم الألفاظ التي نستعملها اليوم في المنطق، والأخلاق، وعلم النفس، وعلم الاجتماع، وعلم الجمال، وعلم ما وراء الطبيعة، وهو يبين أصل كل لفظ في اللغة، ويثبت إلى جانبه ما يقابله سن الألفاظ الفرنسية، والإنكليزية واللاتينية، ويحرص في شرح هذه الألفاظ وتفسيرها على إيراد بعض النصوص الفلسفية التي تبين وجوه استعمالها. فهو إذن معجم ألفاظ فلسفية، لا معجم موضوعات، وهو أداة لتفهم النصوص، لا موسوعة فلسفية عامة مخيطة بالمذاهب وبتراجم أصحابها.
وقد رتبة المعجم على حروف الهجاء العربي، وألحق به فهرساً عاماً للألفاظ الفرنسية، والإنكليزية واللاتينية، يرشد القارئ إلى المواضع المختلفة التي وردت فيها، بحيث يمكن الإطلاع على الألفاظ الأجنبية المقابلة للألفاظ العربية بمراجعة مواد المعجم، والإطلاع على الألفاظ العربية المقابلة للألفاظ الأجنبية، بمراجعة الفهرس المرتب على حروف الهجاء اللاتيني.
وإذا كان قد عني في هذا المعجم بتحديد معاني الألفاظ، فمرد ذلك إلى اعتقاده أن هذا التحديد أساس كل بناء فلسفي منسق، إن خير وسيلة للإبداع الفكري المنظم هي الاتفاق على معاني الألفاظ، وليس المهم أن نضع لكل لفظ فرنسي، أو الإنكليزي ما يقابله من الألفاظ العربية، وإنما المهم أن نحدد معنى اللفظ، وأن نبين وجوه استعماله بالرجوع إلى النصوص التي ورد فيها، وهي نصوص عربية قديمة، أو نصوص فلسفية حديثة مترجمة عن الفرنسية أو الإنكليزية.
