يضم هذا الكتاب الوثائق الخاصة بقضيتين سياسيتين هامتين شهدتهما ولاية طرابلس الغرب بين 1882-1911 أي قبل حوالي قرن من الزمان، أولهما بشأن تأسيس جمعية "إفسادية" وتوجيه تهمة الخيانة لبعضهم، وقد كانت هذه الجمعية أول تجربة تنظيمية هي قضية التحقيق مع إبراهيم سراج الدين واحمد حسين النائب، وحمزة ظاهر المدني وآخرين بالمعنى الحديث للتنظيم، شهدتها ليبيا، وعاصرت تجارب تنظيمية مماثلة ظهرت آنذاك في أنحاء أخرى من الوطن العربي مثلت بمجموعها البدايات التنظيمية في الحركة اليقظة العربية الحديثة، والأخرى هي قضية تحقيق آخر جرى مع "إبراهيم سراج الدين" وهو في سجنه بشأن تحرك جديد له وادعائه المهدوية. وشمل هذا التحقيق متهمين آخرين هما "محمد أبو ربعية، ويوسف عبد الجليل الصيد".
هذا الكتاب إذن كتاب وثائق يضعه المؤلف بين يدي الباحثين والمهتمين بتاريخ ليبيا العربية الحديث، كما يضعه في الوقت نفسه بين أيد جميع القراء العرب، لأن وثائقه تقدم تاريخاً وافياً لقضيتين سياسيتين بطلهما الرئيسي شاب عربي عاش حياة قصيرة حافلة في فترة تحول حاسمة من فترات التجول في التاريخ لليبي الحديث وقد شاركه في كل من القضيتين شباب آخرون عرب لكل منهم قصة، وتحكي الوثائق قصة ذلك الشاب وبقية القصص بأسلوب شيق أو تبرز من خلال سطورها المأساة والملهاة لتكشف عن طبيعة تلك الفترة ولتقدم مثلاً للقضايا السياسية التي عانت منها ولا تزال تعاني منها أجيال العربية الشابة.
