يتناول هذا الكتاب دراسة تحليلية لظاهرة التضاد في القرآن الكريم بين النظرية والتطبيق، تقوم على استقصاء جميع الأضداد الواردة في القرآن الكريم، ثم ترتيبها واستقراء شواهدها ومناقشتها وفقاً للمنهج التاريخي الذي يأخذ بأصول الألفاظ أو يبحث عنها، ويضرب صفحاً عما يعتريها من عوامل التطور الصوتي أو الدلالي.
يدرس الكتاب ظاهرة كثرة ألفاظ الأضداد في العربية وكثرة التصنيف فيها، وانقسام العلماء تجاهها إلى من يراها ميزة تزهو بها اللغة العربية على سائر اللغات، فتمدها بمزيد من التراث، وإلى من يعتقد ذلك مطعناً يسلب العربية بهاء الفصاحة ويخلع عليها أثواب الغموض، ويبين الرأي الفاصل بينهما.
يعرض الكتاب لظاهرة التضاد في اللغة العربية ومسائلها وأقوال العلماء فيها، وآثارها وأسباب نشوئها وكثرتها، وجهود اللغويين السابقين فيها، ويحصى الكتب والرسائل المؤلفة في جميع الألفاظ الأضداد ودراستها وتعريفها والاهتمام بها، وانقسام العلماء القدامى والمحدثين فيها بين مثبت ومنكر.
كما يعرض للتضاد في علمي أصول الفقه والمنطق وعلوم القرآن الكريم، وفي حروف المعاني، وفي الصيغ الصرفية، ويستخلص الأضداد في كتبها، ويقيسها على أمثالها من القرآن الكريم، ويرتبها على حروف المعجم، ويخلص إلى تبرئة القرآن الكريم من ظاهرة التضاد في ألفاظه.
من الظواهر التي يميز العربية كثرة ألفاظ الأضداد فيها وكثرة التصنيف في تلك الألفاظ.
ولقد انقسم علماء اللغة تجاه هذه الظاهرة فريقين، فريق يراها ميزة تزهو بها لغتنا على سائر اللغات فتمدها بمزيد من الثراء، وفريق يعتقدها مطعناً يسلب العربية بها الفصاحة ويخلع عليها أثواب الغموض.
فأي فريق على حق يا ترى؟ وأيهما صاحب الحجة والبرهان؟
إن هذا الكتاب يحاول الفصل بينهما، من خلال دراسة تحليلية تقوم على استقصاء جميع الأضداد الواردة في القرآن الكريم، ثم ترتيبها واستقراء شواهدها ومناقشتها وفقاً للمنهج التاريخي الذي يأخذ بأصول الألفاظ.
