أثار كتاب " القادم لقتلك...إستبق وإقتله " عند صدوره في الطبعة العبرية إهتماماً كبيراً في الأوساط الإسرائيلية، وتناقلت وسائل الإعلام فقرات مطولة منه، ثم ترجم إلى عدة لغات، فهو إضافة إلى كونه مذكرات يعقوب بيري المدير الأسبق لجهاز المخابرات الإسرائيلية " الشاباك " فقد تضمن معلومات، كانت بعيدة حتى عن كثير من الإسرائيلين أنفسهم. تحدث بيري في كتابه عن مهنته رجل أمن، مستعرضاً مسيرة تسعة وعشرين عاماً من حياته، أمضاها في جهاز الشاباك ومع أنه أراد إضفاء الصفة الشخصية على المذكرات بقوله: " لقد حرصت طوال سنوات خدمتي في الجهاز على كتابة يومياتي الشخصية، وحرصت على أن تتضمن الأحداث التي أواجهها يومياً، والمشاعر التي تعتريني، والأفكار التي تراودني نتيجة عملي في الأماكن المختلفة " فالكتاب يبقى مذكرات مهنية أكثر من مذكرات شخصية، لذلك نجد أن أحد العناوين التي نشرت للكتاب كان " مهنتي رجل مخابرات " أما العنوان الذي إختاره لطبعته الأولى العبرية " الآتي لقتلك " فهو عنوان يخاطب به الجمهور الإسرائيلي ، ويشرح له كيف كان يصل مع زملائه الليل بالنهار، ليعمل الناس ويناموا بهدوء، وكيف حالوا من دون كثير من العمليات الفدائية التي يمكن لو نجحت أن يقتل فيها المئات بل الآلاف من الإسرائيلين، وكان يمكنها أن تهز أركان الدولة وتهدد وجودها.
"لقد سعى بيري أن تكون مذكراته عرضاً للمشهد الختامي من المسلسل الصهيوني الطويل، مع تجاهل الممارسات التي أدت إلى هذا المشهد الذي ساهم فيه القتل والتهجير والاضطهاد الصهيوني بتحويل الفلسطيني إما إلى استشهادي مقتول بشرف، أو إلى مقتول ذليل لا محالة. ولكن تواتر الانتفاضات والشهداء سوف لن يسمح لمشهد "الآتي لقتلك" أن يكون، كما أراده بيري، مشهداً ختامياً للصراع العربي الإسرائيلي. لذلك أدعو كل عربي لقراءة هذا الكتاب ليعرف حقيقة مشكلة الأمن في إسرائيل، والشعور بالخوف القاتل من المستقبل، وعلى ضوء ذلك يمكن أن يفسر العديد من مواقفها وردود أفعالها".
