تحدث المؤلف في الفصل الأول منها عن التجهيزات المخبرية الواجب توفرها في مختبر الأحياء، مدعمة بالصور، فضلاً عن كيفية تصنيفها وحفظها، وفي الفصل الثاني تحدث عن بعض الأجهزة التي تستخدم بكثرة في هذا المختبر من حيث التعريف بها وكيفية توظيفها والعناية بها عند إستخدامها، والسلامة العامة في التعامل معها، وأخيراً تحدث في الفصل الثالث من هذا الكتاب عن أهم المهارات الضرورية التي على فني المختبر أن يتقنها في مختبر الأحياء، وقد تناولها بشيء من التفصيل لأهميتها، وهذه المهارات هي: تنظيف الأدوات وتعقيمها، الصبغ: آليته وكيفية تحضير الأصباغ، تحضير الشرائح المجهرية، زراعة البكتريا، فضلاً عن كيفية تحضير العينات وحفظها.
