في كتابه هذا، يقدم الدكتور ناجي التكريتي دراسة مقارنة في (فلسفة الأخلاق) بين أرسطو ومسكويه، بغية إظهار خصائص كل من الفيلسوفين، ومدى تأثرهما بفلسفة وأفكار الفلاسفة السابقين، يقول المؤلف: "وددت أن أكتب كتاباً في الفلسفة المقارنة بين أرسطو (384 ق. م. - 221 ق.م.) ومسكويه (320- 421هـ)، وجدت أن الفيلسوفين يلتقيان في الفلسفة الأخلاقية، إن لم أقل أن مسكويه قد تأثر كثيراً بفلسفة أرسطو الأخلاقية، إضافة إلى ما احتذته ووعاه من تعاليم الدين الإسلامي، أكثر من هذا، فاأستطيع التأكيد أن مسكويه، ما أن يستوعب الفكرة الفلسفية أو يؤمن بها ويتبناها، حتى يخضعها للتعاليم الإسلامية، قبل أن يستعملها وتفوق من صميم إبداعاته الفكرية...".
إنطلاقاً من هذا الهم المعرفي ولتأكيد ما سبق قسّم المؤلف عمله إلى ثمانية فصول، استدرج إليها مفاهيم "النفس"، "الفضيلة"، "العقل"، "العدل"، "عدم الإعتدال"، "الصداقة"، "الخير والسعادة"، و"اللذة"، فحاول شرحها وتفكيكها وتحليلها.
كما وردت عند الفلاسفة في كتبهم المعتبرة، ولا سيما كتاب (النفس) وكتاب (الأخلاق النيوماخية) لأرسطو، وكتاب (تجارب الأمم) لمسكويه، فاجتهد كثيراً في إظهار إبداع كل من الفيلسوفين في حقل فلسفة الأخلاق، وإظهار أوجه التشابه والتباين في فلسفتهما الأخلاقية.
أما الشيء الهام الذي أضافه المؤلف هو إشارته إلى إمكانية الإستفادة من فلسفة الأخلاق في الخير العام للدول والمجتمعات والأفراد في المجتمعات الحديثة.
