الكتاب من ترجمة، تحقيق أحمد لطفي السيد. يدور موضوع الكتاب حول فلسفة أرسطو ليس في علم الأخلاق، فأرسطو يعتبر المؤسس الفعلي لعلم الأخلاق، وهذا لأنه وضع قواعد وحدد كل شيء في فلسفته في عدة كتب أهمها كتاب (علم الأخلاق إلى نيقو ماخوس) وهو من أهم المؤلفات الثلاثة التي تكوَن ما يمكن أن يسمى أدب أرسطو. وقد ساهم في إعداد ودراسة هذا الكتاب "بارتلمي سانتهلر" ووضع له عنواناً فرعياً (علم الأخلاق من أفلاطون غلى كنط) وجاء في ثلاثة عناوين رئيسية، الكتاب الأول (نظرية الخير والسعادو)، والكتاب الثاني (نظرية الفضيلة) والكتاب الثالث (في الشجاعة وفي الاعتدال). اعتبر بارتلمي سانتهلير أن: كل الدلائل تتضافر على ان ارسطو طاليس كان رجلاً فاضلاً جامعاً لصنوف الفضيلة قبل أن يؤلف علم الأخلاق، فإنه يتعلق بعلم الاخلاق لا يحفل بالعلم المجرد بقواعده. بل يرى، والحق ما يراه، أنه لا فائدة من العلم، بماهي الفضيلة علماً نظرياً دون رياضة النفس على حيازتها واستعمالها، وما الفضيلة عنده إلا استعداد طبيعي نمتَه العادة وطبعته خلقاً يلازم الفاضل فلايتعدَى حدوده في نياته وفي أقواله وأفعاله...". ومهما يكن من أمر فإن علم الخلاق هو محاور نقاشات فلسفية على مر العصور ولم يزل من المواضيع التي لم يكف البشر عن مناقشتها منذ زمن أرسطو وحتى يومنا هذا. لذلك كان لا بد من التعرَف على المؤسس الفعلي لعلم الأخلاف.
