تتمثل اهمية هذا الكتاب في تعريفه لحاجات الطفل النفسية والاجتماعية في مرحلة الطفولة المبكرة كالحاجة للحب والامان والانتماء والسعادة وغيرها، وتقديمه للاساليب الكفيلة بتحقيق التوافق النفسي للاطفال والتماسك الاجتماعي للمجتمع الذي يعيش فيه، ذلك ان اشباع هذه الحاجات لدى الطفل وتزويده بالقيم الاجتماعية والانسانية الماجدة يخلق منه انسانا قويا مؤمنا قادرا على ان يصلح من نفسه ويتسامح، ويعتذر اذا اخطا ويقدم العطاء دون انتظار المقابل، كما ان تنمية الطفل اجتماعيا ودينيا واخلاقيا يساهم في تعزيز اعتبار الطفل لذاته وتنمية قدرته على التعبير عن مشاعره وامانيه لاحباء يعيشون معه او بقربة يساندونه ويهتمون به ويشاركوه احاسيسه واحلامه ويساعدونه على الشعور برضا العابد، وثبات الواثق، وان يحب الورود كما يحب احلى الثمار، وان يرى الجمال في طيب الخلق ونقاء القلب وفي ابسط الاشياء، ويعرف ان السعادة لا تتحقق الا بالتواضع والعيش مع الاخرين والتعاون معهم، لذا ان تربية الطفل اجتماعيا واخلاقيا تعين الطفل على الرقي بمشاعره وتهذيب نفسه والالتصاق بمجتمعه وانتمائه له وهذا كله في نهاية الامر يدفعه الى العمل والايثار في مراحل عمره المقبلة فينتج لا لنفسه ومجتمعه فقط ولكن للحضارة الانسانية بشكل عام.
