كانت معركة جالديران التي نشبت بين الدولة العثمانية وإيران في سنة 1514 فاتحة لحقبة طويلة من الصراعات بين الدولتين امتدت لأكثر من قرون، وكانت أراضي ولايات العراق الثمانية ساحة رئيسة من ساحتها.
إلا أن سياسة الدولتين في إدارة ملف الدولتين قد تبدلت منذ ذلك الحين منذ إبرامهما لمعاهدة أرضروم في سنة 1823، واعتمدت منذ ذلك الحين علي أسلوب حل المشكلات سلمياُ إنطلاقاُ من طاولات التفاوض كانت معركة جالديران التي نشبت بين الدولة العثمانية وإيران في سنة 1514 فاتحة لحقبة طويلة من الصراعات بين الدولتين امتدت لأكثر من قرون، وكانت أراضي ولايات العراق الثمانية ساحة رئيسة من ساحتها.

وقد تناولت فصول هذا الكتاب دراسة التطورات التي طرأت علي العلاقات بين الدولة العثمانية وإيران منذ سنة 1823 إلي سنة 1875، وهي السنة التي توجت حقبة السنوات الخمس التي أعقبت زيارة العاهل الإبراني ناصر الدين شاه لولاية بغداد، وشهدت تقدماُ ملحوظاُ للعلاقات الثنائية بعقد سلسلة من الإتفاقيات.
كما تناول فصولالكتاب دور العراق العثماني في التاثير في مسار العلاقات العثمانية الإبرانية وتاثيره بها بسبب وقوع الجزء الأطول من الحدود بين الدولتين في أراضيه، ولأسباب أخري تتعلق بتنقل العشاشر والمجموعات العشائرية المسلحة عبر مناطق الحدود ومشكلات زيارة الإيرانيين للعتبات المقدسة، والمقيمين واللاجئين وسواها، والتي كانت أعصاها علي الحل مشكلة الحدود.
