فتقول هيئة الترجمة في مقدمتها "ما وقعت عيناي يومًا على موسوعة تاريخ الحضارات العام في مجلداتها السبعة وهي اصلاً ظهرت باللغة الفرنسية عن مطبوعات الجامعة الفرنسية - باريس حتى تولتني نشوة من الغبطة تمنيت معها ان يلهم الله ناشرًا يتولى نقلها الى لغة الضاد فيمد المكتبة العربية، ولا سيما مكتبة التاريخ منها، بمرجع هام ونادر من مراجع التاريخ العام تناهد فريق من الاخصائيين واعلام اساتذة التاريخ في جامعات فرنسا وخصوصا جامعة السوربون العريقة على وضعه على مثل هذا النحو من العرض والتركيز هو أقرب لتحليل حوادث التاريخ من السرد المبسط".
