يرصد هذا الكتاب تطور مفهوم الجنوسة من كونه قضية نحوية تختلف في تعقيدها وحلولها من لغة إلى أخرى، وتتمحور أساساً حول مشكلة التذكير والتأنيث، إلى أن أصبح إحدى مفردات النقد الأدبي الحديث. لذلك لا يجد مؤلفاً هذا الكتاب مفراً من معالجة ارتباط هذا المصطلح بالسياقات الاجتماعية والفكرية التي نشأ وتطور فيها، وخصوصاً تلازمه مع طروحات وسجالات الحركة النسوية وتشعباتها وامتداداتها. إن ا يرصد هذا الكتاب تطور مفهوم الجنوسة من كونه قضية نحوية تختلف في تعقيدها وحلولها من لغة إلى أخرى، وتتمحور أساساً حول مشكلة التذكير والتأنيث، إلى أن أصبح إحدى مفردات النقد الأدبي الحديث. لذلك لا يجد مؤلفاً هذا الكتاب مفراً من معالجة ارتباط هذا المصطلح بالسياقات الاجتماعية والفكرية التي نشأ وتطور فيها، وخصوصاً تلازمه مع طروحات وسجالات الحركة النسوية وتشعباتها وامتداداتها. إن السباق الفكري الأخر الذي تطور فيه هذا المصطلح هو قضية الذكورة والمجتمع الذكوير والأنظمة البطريركية وارتباط التمييز الجنسي بالتمييز العنصري والإثني وتلازمهما مع الاضطهاد الذي تعاني منه المرأة الملونة العاملة المهاجرة في المجتمع الغربي. أما في النقد الأدبي فتفيد دراسة الجنوسة كبوصلة لا تخطئ للناقد المتسلح بمبضع التحليل النفسي، الفرويدي وغير الفرويدي، كي يتتبع مسارات ومصائر أبطال الروايات والمسرحيات وغيرها من الأجناس الأدبية، كما تفيد كمصيدة للهفوات والزلات التي يستدرج إليها المؤلف في غفلة من وعيه وبتواطؤ من لاوعيه، حينما يتعلق الأمر بسيروات ومال الصراعات الدرامية التي يكون الجنس محركها ووقودها.
