ولد محمد سعيد القدال بمدينة سنكات عام 1935م ، وتخرج في جامعة الخرطوم – كلية الآداب عام 1958م ، وفي عام 1964 حصل على درجة الماجستير من جامعة ولاية كلفورنيا ، وحصل على درجة الدكتوراة من جامعة الخرطوم ، وكان موضوع رسالة الدكتوراة عن "النظام الاقتصادي للدولة المهدية" ، والتى صدرت في كتاب بعنوان( السياسة الاقتصادية للدولة المهدية ) أعماله: له العديد من المؤلفات منها: 1.
1970:التعليم في مرحلة الثورة الوطنية الديمقراطية 2.
1972: الحرب الحبشية السودانية(تحقيق بالاشتراك) ط.ث.1992 3.
1973: المهدية والحبشة.
