إن ظهور اللسانيات بوصفها الدراسة العلمية للسان في حد ذاته ومن أجل ذاته، ليس بدعةً فكريةً أو ترفاً علمياً بين مختلف العلوم التي ما فتئت تحاول اقتحام مجهول اللغة، لأن الفهم العميق للغة البشرية هو فهم لطبيعة العقل والمعرفة عند الإنسان؛ فاللسانيات ليست سوى واجهة ضمن عدد من المعارف والعلوم التي تتفاعل كلها لفهم أعمق وتحليلٍ أدقٍ وتفسيرٍ أعمّ للظواهر اللغوية. إنه مطل
إن ظهور اللسانيات بوصفها الدراسة العلمية للسان في حد ذاته ومن أجل ذاته، ليس بدعةً فكريةً أو ترفاً علمياً بين مختلف العلوم التي ما فتئت تحاول اقتحام مجهول اللغة، لأن الفهم العميق للغة البشرية هو فهم لطبيعة العقل والمعرفة عند الإنسان؛ فاللسانيات ليست سوى واجهة ضمن عدد من المعارف والعلوم التي تتفاعل كلها لفهم أعمق وتحليلٍ أدقٍ وتفسيرٍ أعمّ للظواهر اللغوية. إنه مطلب كثير من العلوم التي تلتقي مع اللسانيات في موضوع دراسة اللغة.
لقد حاولنا الوقوف على بعض الأسس الفكرية والمنهجية التي قام عليها ما اصطلح عليه بـ"اللسانيات العامة" وعلى أهم الموضوعات المتصلة بها وليس كلها (ومن هنا ورود حرف الجر "في" ضمن عنوان هذا الكتاب)، حريصين قدر المستطاع ألا نعرض للموضوعات التي استهلكت في العديد من الكتابات اللسانية العربية مثل نشأة اللغة والأسر اللغوية والتعريف بفروع اللسانيات، وبمستويات البحث اللساني، ولاسيما ما يتعلق بعلم الأصوات؛ فهذه الموضوعات وما يشبهها متوفّرة باللغة العربية، وبالتالي لا نرى داعياً لتكرار القول فيها. وقد اتجهنا في إعداد هذا الكتاب نحو الجمع بين العُمْق والتبسيط، وبين المتابعة التاريخية والتقديم الوصفي العام لقضايا اللسانيات العامة من جهة، وللمفاهيم النظرية والإجرائية من جهة ثانية. وقد راعينا في التقديم كل عناصر التبسيط والتوضيح والتمثيل وإعادة الأفكار والتذكير بها بعباراتٍ مختلفةٍ كلما دعت الضرورة إلى ذلك دون الإخلال بالدقة المطلوبة والأمانة العلمية.
