أصبح الحديث عن المفاهيم التي تتشكل منها لسانيّات سوسير يتطلب بالضرورة الرجوع إلى ما هو مُتاحٌ حالياً من نصوص جديدة تتعلَّق بالمصادر الأصول لـ دروس في اللسانيات العامة، كمُدوَّنات الطلبة للدروس، وملحوظات سوسير التحضيريَّة لهذه الدروس، ونُصوص أخرى سابقة للدروس كنص "الماهيَّة المزدوجة للغة" l’essence double du langage الذي كتبه سوسير في ما بين سنتَيْ 1891 و1894، لكنه ظل مفقوداً ولم يُعثَر عليه إلا سنة 1996، ليُنشَر سنة 2002 في مؤلف ضم نصوصاً جديدة بعنوان Ecrits de linguistique générale.
ولا يمكن ألا يَلحَظ متتبع هذه المصادر الأصول عُمق تحليلات سوسير، وما تكشف عنه من إحساس بالغ عنده بأهمية معالجة قضايا اللغة واللسانيّات في صيغة إشكالات شاملة وتساؤلات قلقة لا تنقطع، في حين اكتفى بالي وسيشهاي ناشرا كتاب دروس في اللسانيات العامة بعرض مبتور وجزئي خاص بهما للسانيات سوسير.
وما عرضنا له انطلاقاً من المصادر الأصول من تحليل للمفاهيم الجوهرية في هذه اللسانيّات، مثل: اللغة واللسان والعلامة والاعتباطية والفصل بين لسانيات اللسان ولسانيات الكلام وتنوع الألسن وأهمية الدراسة التعاقبية، يُبين بياناً ملموساً المسافات التصورية التي اختصرها ناشرا دروس بالضد من إرادة سوسير، بالرغم من أهمية الإشكاليّات التي شغلَتْهُ لا في دروسه فقط، بل في نصوص أخرى أيضاً.
