يعدُّ كتاب " مغني اللبيب " إسهامًا فريدًا في علم النحو، ومرجعًا أساسيًّا لكل دارس للنحو وفروع العربية. ويزيد من أهميته أن مؤلفه أحد جهابذة علم العربية، وقد أثرى المكتبة العربية بمصنفات في النحو والفقه والأدب والتفسير واللغة وغيرها. وقد اتخذ مؤلفه ابن هشام طريقة فريدة في العرض والتناول سبق بها علماء عصره؛ فقد قام بتقسيم الكتاب إلى جزئيات ، هي الأدوات النحوية التي رتبها على يعدُّ كتاب " مغني اللبيب " إسهامًا فريدًا في علم النحو، ومرجعًا أساسيًّا لكل دارس للنحو وفروع العربية. ويزيد من أهميته أن مؤلفه أحد جهابذة علم العربية، وقد أثرى المكتبة العربية بمصنفات في النحو والفقه والأدب والتفسير واللغة وغيرها. وقد اتخذ مؤلفه ابن هشام طريقة فريدة في العرض والتناول سبق بها علماء عصره؛ فقد قام بتقسيم الكتاب إلى جزئيات ، هي الأدوات النحوية التي رتبها على نظام معجمي، وكليات على شكل أساسيات وقواعد عامة، وذلك كله بطريقة سهلة ميسَّرة رائعة. ولقد توجهت أنظار العلماء النحويين واللغويين إليه؛ فتناولوه؛ إما بالشرح أو الاختصار أو وضع الحواشي عليه أو نَظْمه. ولقد تبوَّأت حاشية العلَّامه الدسوقي على " مغني اللبيب " منزلة رفيعة بين الحواشي التي وضعت على " مغني اللبيب "؛ فجاءت فريدة في تسهيل معانيه وتبيين مبانيه، وفك مشْكِله وفتح مغلقه. كما بيَّنت اختلاف النحويين في المسائل الخلافية. ولزيادة الفائدة ، وضعنا بالكتاب منظومة " السبك العجيب في نظم مغني اللبيب "، التي جاءت جامعةً شاملةً لجميع مسائل الكتاب، ومزيلةً لغموض بعضها، بل واشتملت على مسائل وجوانب إضافية.
