يتخذ الكتاب طريقة جديدة في دراسة علم النحو وفروعه وأبوابه ، حيث إنه يجمع الأدوات النحوية في باب خاص يجمع فيه كل ما يتصل بها من قواعد وأحكام ، مرتبة حسب ترتيب حروف المعجم مستخدما ما يخدمه من شواهد قرآنية وحديثية وشعرية ، وذلك في الكلام على كل حرف من الحروف ،ثم أفرد ابن هشام أبوابا أخرى ارتأى أهميتها في توصيل هدف الكتاب إلى المتلقي ، ولما كان الكتاب من الأهمية بهذا المكان ، فقد توجهت أنظار العلماء واللغويين إليه فتناولوه بالشرح أو الاختصار ، ونظرا لغزارة هذا العلم الوارد بمغني اللبيب وصعوبة الإحاطة به كاملا ، فقد حرصنا على أن يشتمل الكتاب على منظومة عظيمة شاملة لكل ما جاء في الكتاب ، قام بنظمها مولاي عبد الحفيظ بن الحسن بن محمد العلوي ، الذي تولى الحكم في المغرب سنة (1325ه) وتسمى "السبك العجيب في نظم مغني اللبيب " وجمعت المنظومة مسائل المغني كاملة ، وربما فصلت بعض ما جاء به مجملا .
